The grand “Katina” ceremony. marking the end of the “Vassana” (rainy) season that started on July 20, 2024 is scheduled to start on Saturday, November 09, 2024 at the Florida Buddhist Vihara premises.<\/p>\n
The Dhamma program for children will start at 04.30pm- 05.30pm on November 09th<\/p>\n
Sri Lankan dinner stall as a fundraiser for the temple will continue from 07.00pm.<\/p>\n
Offering of flowers and Gilanpasa Buddha Puja will begin around 07.00pm.<\/p>\n
Around 08.00pm, the Chathumadhura Gilanpasa will be offered to the monks who will be in attendance for all night chanting. <\/p>\n
Welcome and introducing the Ven. monks attending to the Pirith Chanting and the Dhamma talk on the Pirith chanting will commence at 08.30pm.<\/p>\n
The all night Pirith chanting ceremony that is intended to bestow the blessings of the triple gem on all living beings and that consists of pre-midnight, midnight and post midnight sessions, is expected to begin around 09.00pm.<\/p>\n
At the conclusion of the Maha Piritha around 12.00am, the task of stitching the “Katina” robe will get underway.<\/p>\n
Very early morning of the following day (Sunday, November 10th) blessed water and string will be distributed among the devotees.<\/p>\n
Because the morning Buddha Puja consisting of offering of incense, flowers, and light is scheduled for 07.00am on Sunday, Nov 10th, please make sure that the temple receives any items that you wish to offer for the monks’ breakfast well in advance. The offering of breakfast to about twenty members of the clergy will be conducted at 07.15am. Following the monks ‘ breakfast and then the lay people’s breakfast ,the “Katina” pageant, in which the “Katina” robe is traditionally carried in a procession, is expected to start at 08.45am.<\/p>\n

Mr.Waruna Jayasooriya will offer the “Katina” robe to the monks in association with the other devotees in attendance.<\/p>\n
Following the offering of the “Katina” robe and the conclusion of the related sermon ,Ven. monks will perform the essential rituals based on the Sangha code of conduct and reach a consensus on the potential robe recipient monk from the group of monks who resided at the temple during the “Vasana” season.<\/p>\n
Consequent to actions relevant to the coda of conduct “Vinaya Karama” the ceremony will conclude with the monks bestowing their blessings on all those who contributed towards this year’s “Katina” ceremony.<\/p>\n
The Dhamma sermon illustrating the virtues of “Katina” known as the “Katinanisansa” sermon, which is traditionally conducted at the end of the Katina ceremony, is scheduled to be delivered in person from 09.15am- to 10.15am on Sunday, Nov 10th. <\/p>\n
